The Racial Paradigm and Anti-Caste Activism in the U.S.

The International Studies Program hosts Dr. Prema Kurien of Syracuse University as she presents “The Racial Paradigm and Anti-Caste Activism in the US” on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 12:30 pm on Zoom.

Dr. Kurien is a professor of sociology at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her research focuses on how race, religion, and group differences interact with the socio-political structures and cultures of the North American context to impact patterns of activism and advocacy. Dr. Kurien is the author of three award-winning books, Kaleidoscopic Ethnicity: International Migration, the Reconstruction of Community Identities in India, A Place at the Multicultural Table: The Development of an American Hinduism, and Ethnic Church Meets Megachurch: Indian American Christianity in Motion. She is currently working on her next book, Race, Religion, and Citizenship: the Political Mobilization of Indian Americans.
